Ironically Chic? We'll Take it! The Versatility of the Mundane Grey Sweatshirt

The fashion gods are smiling down on us, my friends. First, the chic come-back of the white sneaker, now the fashion forward slant of the cozy and familiar gray sweatshirt.

Please give this guy a big round of applause for its amazing ability to create numerous outfits.

Outfit #1: The Classic! Jeans and a sweatshirt are honestly what we all want to wear every day, but sadly often feel too schleppy to wear confidently. The trick is tucking that sweatshirt in! I know, it feels like a lot of fabric, but the overall effect is more trendy. Opt for a light wash, high-waisted jean that shows off the ankles, and finish with a camel loafer. You won’t be losing any comfort, but gaining tons of style cred.

Outfit #2: The Matching Set. Insane, but true, this is trendy. You could even go super normcore and do it with Hanes. The trick is to keep the colors the same, so grey on grey, etc; and wear a cool shoe to show you know what you’re doing. I went with a turtleneck under to show my trend commitment.

Outfit #3: New Trousers are casual, but not jeans. You need to invest (but not a lot) in a high waisted, pleated pant. It sounds very 90’s, and it is! But so chic right now. Tuck it in and add a belt.

Outfit #4: Leather Trousers. Pant styles are really “walking away” from the standard skinnies of yore, and are much more relaxed now. Here’s a take on a loose (shocking, I know!) leather trouser that once paired with a sweatshirt, feels cool and effortless, but still has that edgy, urban vibe we rely on in a leather pant.

Outfit #5: A skirt! Yes, it’s comfy and easy and an excellent way to get more wear from the silk skirt you (probably recently) just bought. Pair with a sneaker to keep it feeling too dressed up.
